Do you really serve Chester County from New Jersey?
We do, through in-home ABA, and we want to be upfront about what that means. Our only center, at 1939 NJ-70 in Cherry Hill, is about 43 miles from Chester County, so center-based days are not a realistic option for families around West Chester and beyond. Every Chester County child we serve gets In-Home ABA Therapy, where a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) comes to you and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) designs and supervises the plan.
Because the county is large and spread out, availability depends on where you live and how our therapists' schedules line up. Call with your town and we will tell you plainly whether we can staff your child's hours consistently. If we cannot, we would rather say so than start services we cannot sustain.
We also respect that many Chester County families will compare several providers before deciding. That is a good instinct. The right ABA provider for your child is the one that can show up consistently, explain its plan clearly and treat you as part of the team. The questions below are the same ones we would ask if we were in your position, and they apply no matter who you choose.
What should Chester County parents ask any ABA provider?
Whether you choose us or another provider, a few questions tell you a lot about the care your child will get. Small details, like who supervises and how often, shape every session.
- Who is the BCBA?ask how many children they supervise and how often they see your child in person
- Will the therapist stay the same?frequent RBT changes slow progress for many children
- How is progress measured?you should see data from every session and regular plan reviews
- Is parent training included?it should be part of the plan, not an add-on
- What is the assessment?a skills assessment and, when needed, a functional behavior assessment
How does Innovative ABA answer those questions?
Our approach is "small by design, known by name." BCBAs keep low caseloads, we work hard to keep the same RBT with your child session to session, and Clinical Director Charles Knoppel, BCBA, oversees every treatment plan. Credentials for BCBAs and RBTs are issued by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, and you can verify them yourself.
For families farther from our team, Parent Training & Support carries extra weight. Your BCBA coaches you in prompting, reinforcement and responding to challenging behavior, so the hours between sessions keep moving your child forward. When it fits the plan, sessions can also move into community settings to practice skills where they are needed.
What are the steps to start in-home ABA in Chester County?
Starting ABA takes a few steps, and knowing them ahead of time makes the wait easier. Most of the paperwork happens in parallel, so it moves faster than it looks on paper.

How do insurance, Early Intervention and IEPs work in Chester County?
Pennsylvania's Act 62 (2008) requires many state-regulated group health plans to cover autism diagnosis and treatment, including ABA, for people under 21. Self-funded employer plans follow federal rules instead. We accept most major plans, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Tricare and UnitedHealthcare, and verify benefits for free. Medical Assistance can cover ABA through Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS); ask us whether we can bill your plan.
Pennsylvania Early Intervention, overseen by OCDEL, serves children from birth to 5, and school-age children are evaluated by their district, which writes the IEP. ABA through insurance runs alongside those services. For younger children, see Early Intervention ABA, and for questions about your specific situation, contact us.

Frequently asked questions
Is there an ABA center you run in Chester County?
No. Innovative ABA has one physical location, our center in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, about 43 miles from Chester County. Chester County families are served in-home, and sometimes in community settings when it fits the treatment plan. Availability depends on your town and therapist schedules, so call us to check.
How often will the BCBA see my child?
Your BCBA supervises regularly, reviewing session data, observing your child with the RBT and meeting with you for parent training. Exact frequency depends on your child's plan and insurance requirements. Because our BCBAs keep low caseloads, they have time to know your child well, which matters when your family is farther from our team.
What if you can't cover all the hours my child needs?
We will tell you before services start. After the assessment, your BCBA recommends hours and we check whether we can staff them consistently in your area. If we cannot, we will say so honestly so you can make the best choice for your child, rather than starting a plan that runs short.
Can I use Pennsylvania Medical Assistance for ABA?
Pennsylvania's Medical Assistance program can cover ABA for eligible children through Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS). Whether a particular provider can bill your plan depends on provider enrollment. Ask us directly about your plan and we will answer honestly. We also verify private insurance benefits for free, and many families use private coverage under Act 62.
What does ABA teach, exactly?
ABA, or Applied Behavior Analysis, teaches skills that matter in daily life: communication, play, self-care, following routines and handling frustration. It also reduces challenging behavior by teaching better ways to meet the same need. Teaching uses reinforcement, natural environment teaching during real routines, and discrete trial training for skills that need focused practice.
How long does insurance authorization take?
It varies by insurer and plan, so we cannot promise a specific timeline. What we can do is start the benefits check right away, tell you exactly what documents your plan requires and submit the assessment and treatment plan promptly. We keep you updated at each step so you are never left guessing where things stand.
Why does a consistent therapist matter so much?
Many children with autism learn best with predictable people and routines. When the same RBT works with your child week after week, less time goes to rebuilding trust and more goes to teaching. It also gives your BCBA cleaner data. That is why we put consistency ahead of filling every possible hour with whoever is available.
