Can ABA help my child make friends?
Yes. Social skills are learnable, and ABA teaches them the same way it teaches anything else: break the skill into small steps, practice each step, reinforce progress and measure it. For one child that means joining a game without grabbing. For another it means noticing when a friend is bored with a topic.
Our Social Skills Development program starts with what your child needs, not a generic curriculum. A BCBA assesses current skills, picks a few meaningful targets and plans practice with real peers whenever possible. Role-play and modeling help, but the goal is always the same: your child using the skill with other kids, not just with a therapist.
We also look at what gets in the way. Sometimes a child has the skill but anxiety, noise or a rigid routine blocks it. In those cases, the plan pairs social practice with coping strategies, so your child can use what they know when it counts.
How do skills learned in therapy carry over to school?
This is called generalization, and it is where many therapy plans fall short. A child who can greet a therapist at home may still freeze in a crowded classroom. That is why we plan for generalization from the start, practicing skills in different places, with different people and with different materials.
Through School & Community-Based ABA, a therapist can support your child in settings outside the home when the school or program allows it. We also work through your child's IEP team. In New Jersey, the district's Child Study Team evaluates children from age 3 and writes the IEP, and our data can give that team a clear picture of what is working.

Where do Cinnaminson families receive ABA?
Cinnaminson sits along Route 130 near the Delaware River, about 8.3 miles from our Cherry Hill center. Most school-age children here do well with In-Home ABA Therapy after school, combined with community outings that give them chances to practice.
Younger children, or children who need more hours, may benefit from full days at our center, where they practice group skills with other kids. Your BCBA will recommend a setting based on the assessment and your family's schedule, and you make the final call. Families in nearby Moorestown and Maple Shade use the same options.
Route 130 and Route 73 both connect Cinnaminson with the roads that lead to Cherry Hill, which helps on center days. For home and community sessions, our therapists come to you, and the Burlington County page explains how we cover the rest of the county.
What does ABA look like for an older child who already talks?
For many verbal school-age children, ABA goals move beyond language. A BCBA might target flexibility when plans change, handling losing a game, asking for help before frustration builds, finishing homework without constant reminders or managing a morning routine independently. These skills affect every part of the day.
Sessions for older children often look like coaching. The therapist sets up realistic situations, practices them with your child, then helps them use the skill in the moment it is needed. Reinforcement shifts over time, from tangible rewards toward the natural payoffs of a good conversation or a smoother morning. You stay involved through regular parent coaching.

Frequently asked questions
Is ABA only for young children?
No. Early support is valuable, but school-age children also gain a lot from ABA, especially for social skills, independence, flexibility and coping with frustration. Goals change as children grow. A BCBA will set goals that match your child's age and what you want for daily life at home and school.
Will an ABA therapist come to my child's school in Cinnaminson?
Sometimes. School-based support depends on the school's policies and your insurance plan, so it is decided case by case. We can also share data with your child's IEP team and suggest strategies even when a therapist is not on site. We help coordinate when you give permission.
How do you measure progress in social skills?
We define each skill in observable terms, such as starting a conversation or waiting for a turn, and track how often and how independently your child does it. The BCBA reviews that data regularly and adjusts the plan, and you get updates you can understand. Parents and teachers can also share what they see, which adds context the numbers alone may miss.
What does a social skills session look like?
It usually mixes short teaching with plenty of practice. A therapist might model a skill, let your child try it in a game, give feedback and then set up the same situation with a peer or sibling. Reinforcement keeps it motivating, and sessions are adjusted to your child's interests.
Does insurance cover ABA for social skills?
When ABA is medically necessary for a child with an autism diagnosis, many plans cover it, and social skills are often part of a covered treatment plan. New Jersey's autism mandate applies to many state-regulated plans. We check your benefits for free so you know before you start.
How do I get started from Cinnaminson?
Call (732) 691-1299 or use our contact page. We will schedule a free consultation, check your insurance benefits and explain the assessment. From there, a BCBA builds a plan around your child's goals. Most families leave that first call knowing exactly what to expect next.
Can siblings or classmates take part in social skills practice?
Often, yes. Practicing with real peers is one of the best ways to make social skills last. At home, a brother or sister can join a game the therapist sets up. In community or school settings, peer practice depends on what the setting allows. Your BCBA will plan peer opportunities that are safe, comfortable and useful for your child.
