Is Gloucester Township in Gloucester County?

No, and it is a common mix-up. Gloucester Township is in Camden County, while Gloucester County is the next county to the south and west. That matters for things like which county resources apply to you. For ABA through private insurance, your county does not change your coverage, but it does help us plan which therapists and schedules fit your area.

The township covers a lot of ground, from Blackwood near Route 42 to Sicklerville toward the Atlantic City Expressway. Our center in Cherry Hill is about 8.5 miles away, so families here split fairly evenly between In-Home ABA Therapy and center days. Our Camden County page shows the other towns we serve nearby.

How does insurance authorization for ABA work in New Jersey?

Insurance is often the part that worries parents most, so here is the plain version. New Jersey passed an autism insurance mandate in 2009 that requires many state-regulated health plans to cover medically necessary behavioral treatment, including ABA. If your employer is self-funded (common at large companies), the plan follows federal rules instead and may cover ABA differently.

Either way, ABA usually requires prior authorization. That means your plan reviews a diagnosis, an assessment and a treatment plan before approving a set number of hours. We handle the paperwork with you.

  • Step 1: Benefits checkwe call your plan for free and explain what it covers
  • Step 2: Diagnosis on filea report from a developmental pediatrician or psychologist
  • Step 3: Assessmenta BCBA completes skills and behavior assessments
  • Step 4: Treatment plangoals and recommended hours go to your plan for approval
  • Step 5: Reauthorizationprogress data supports continued care, usually every few months

What if my plan is Medicaid or NJ FamilyCare?

Public programs like NJ FamilyCare can cover ABA for eligible children in New Jersey. We do not list those plans among the ones we accept, so please call and we will tell you honestly whether we can help or point you toward where to look next.

We currently accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Tricare, UnitedHealthcare and most other major plans. Military families with Tricare are welcome, and we can explain how that program's ABA requirements differ from commercial plans.

If you have both a commercial plan and a public plan, tell us during the benefits check. Coordination between plans can affect which one is billed first, and we would rather sort that out with you at the start than surprise you later.

Which ABA program fits a school-age child in Blackwood or Sicklerville?

For children already in school, the most useful mix is often after-school sessions at home plus support for the skills school demands, such as following group directions, handling transitions and playing with classmates. Our Social Skills Development program targets conversation, turn-taking and friendships in small, structured steps.

If your child has an IEP through the Child Study Team, we can share data with the school when you ask us to. Some children also benefit from School & Community-Based ABA, where a therapist supports skills in the settings where they are needed.

Younger children in the township, especially those not yet in school, may get the most from a center schedule in Cherry Hill. A center day packs in group practice and gives parents predictable hours, which some families find worth the trip from the southern end of the township.

How do progress reports keep ABA hours approved?

Authorization is not a one-time event. Plans usually approve ABA for a set period, then ask for an updated treatment plan and progress data before renewing. That is one reason careful data collection matters so much: it shows your insurer what your child has learned and what still needs work.

Before each renewal, your BCBA reassesses your child, updates goals and explains any change in recommended hours. You will see the same report your insurer sees, so you always know where things stand and why.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do you serve Blackwood and Sicklerville?

Yes. We serve every section of Gloucester Township, including Blackwood, Sicklerville, Erial, Glendora and Chews Landing. In-home therapists travel to you, and center-based days happen at our Cherry Hill location, about 8.5 miles away. Families in neighboring Berlin and Voorhees use the same center.

How long does insurance approval for ABA take?

It varies by plan. The timeline depends on how fast we receive your child's diagnosis report, when the assessment is completed and how long your plan takes to review the treatment plan. We start the benefits check right away and keep you updated at each step so you are not left guessing.

What if my insurance denies ABA?

A denial is not always the final answer. Plans sometimes deny for missing paperwork or a reason that can be addressed with more information. We review the denial with you, explain what it says and help you understand options such as providing more documentation or an appeal.

Does Tricare cover ABA for military families in Gloucester Township?

Tricare does cover ABA for eligible beneficiaries diagnosed with autism, and it has its own referral and program rules. We accept Tricare and can walk you through those requirements during a free consultation, so you know what to expect before services begin. Commercial plans and Tricare each have their own steps.

Can therapy happen after school instead of during the day?

Yes. Many school-age children in Gloucester Township receive in-home ABA in the afternoons, after the school day. Availability depends on therapist schedules in your area, so ask about current openings when you call (732) 691-1299. We often have openings and can start quickly. School-break schedules can be adjusted too.

Is my child's county or school district important for insurance coverage?

Not for private insurance. Coverage depends on your plan, not on whether you live in Blackwood or Sicklerville. Your school district matters for the IEP and services through the Child Study Team, which are separate from ABA billed to insurance. We can help you see how the two fit together for your child.
