What does in-home ABA look like in a Collingswood home?
An RBT arrives at your house on a set schedule, supervised by a BCBA who visits regularly. Sessions are built around your actual routines: getting shoes on before school, sitting for dinner, brushing teeth, playing with a brother or sister, moving from screen time to bath time. The goal is not a perfect therapy session; it is a calmer, more predictable day for your whole family.
You do not need a special room. A corner of the living room or kitchen table works, and part of the teaching happens wherever the routine naturally takes place. RBTs bring materials, use reinforcement your child genuinely cares about and record data throughout so your BCBA can track progress.
Which challenges does home-based ABA handle well?
Home is the right setting when the hard moments happen at home. Your BCBA may use a functional behavior assessment to understand why a behavior occurs, then teach a replacement skill that meets the same need in a better way.
Your BCBA will pick a small number of priorities to start, usually the ones causing the most stress or safety risk. Trying to change everything at once wears out families and children alike, so goals are added as earlier ones are mastered.
- Daily livingdressing, toileting, handwashing, tolerating haircuts or new foods
- Communicationrequesting, saying no safely, asking for help or a break
- Behaviortantrums, aggression or elopement during transitions
- Family lifesibling play, waiting, sharing space and attention
How do parents fit into in-home ABA?
You are in the room, so you see what works. Through Parent Training & Support, your BCBA teaches you how to set up routines, prompt and fade help, and respond to challenging behavior consistently. When parents and therapists use the same approach, children usually learn faster and keep skills longer.
Sessions are a partnership. Tell your BCBA what matters most this month, whether that is a calmer bedtime or getting through a store visit, and goals can shift accordingly.
Parent training can also cover moments the RBT never sees, such as weekends, car rides or visits with relatives. Bring those questions to your BCBA; they belong in the plan.
How does in-home ABA prepare my child for school and the community?
Home is a starting point, not the finish line. As your child gains skills at home, your BCBA plans the next step: practicing with new people, in new places and with less help. That might mean a session that ends with a short walk, a trip to a store or a playdate, each planned with a specific target and data collection.
For children approaching preschool or kindergarten, home sessions can rehearse classroom routines such as sitting for a short activity, following a direction given to a group and cleaning up when a timer ends. When your child has an IEP, we can coordinate with your district's Child Study Team, with your consent, so goals line up.
When your child is ready, our school and community-based ABA service can carry that support into the classroom and beyond.
When would a Collingswood child attend the Cherry Hill center?
At about 5.9 miles away on Route 70, our center is the farthest point of the plan for Collingswood families, yet still within reach. Children who need more hours of structured teaching, or who are working toward a school setting, often add Full-Day Center-Based ABA, where peers and a classroom-like day give them practice home cannot provide.
Your BCBA will tell you honestly whether In-Home ABA Therapy alone fits or whether center days would help. We also serve Haddon Township, Pennsauken and the rest of Camden County. Contact us to get started.

Frequently asked questions
Do you provide in-home ABA in Collingswood?
Yes. Our BCBAs and RBTs provide in-home ABA in Collingswood and surrounding Camden County towns. Call us to confirm current openings and scheduling for your neighborhood; we often have availability and can start quickly once insurance is approved. Center days in Cherry Hill can be added later if your BCBA recommends them.
Do I have to be home during in-home sessions?
In most cases, yes. Insurers and ABA providers generally require a parent or another adult caregiver to be present during in-home sessions. That also gives you the best view of strategies you can use later. Your BCBA will explain the expectations for your plan before sessions begin. You do not need to sit beside the RBT the whole time, but staying nearby keeps you in the loop.
Will in-home therapy disrupt my other children?
Usually it helps the household rather than disrupting it. Siblings can join some activities, which gives your child natural practice with sharing and play. Your BCBA plans sessions around family schedules so homework and naps can still happen. If a sibling's activity conflicts with a session, tell us and we will look at the schedule together.
How far is Collingswood from your center?
Our center at 1939 NJ-70 in Cherry Hill is about 5.9 miles from Collingswood. It is our only physical location. Many Collingswood families rely mostly on in-home ABA, and some add center days when their child is ready for more structured hours. Your BCBA will help you decide.
Is ABA covered by insurance if it happens at home?
In many cases, yes. Coverage depends on your plan, not the setting alone. New Jersey's autism mandate applies to many state-regulated plans, while self-funded employer plans follow federal rules. We verify your benefits for free and explain what is covered. Ask us about your plan.
What if my child's behavior is unsafe at home?
Tell us on the first call. Your BCBA will prioritize safety goals, complete a functional behavior assessment and build a behavior plan with clear steps for you and the RBT. If your child needs urgent medical or crisis help, contact your doctor or emergency services first.
Can you help with toilet training at home?
Yes, toilet training is a common in-home goal. Your BCBA assesses readiness, sets up a schedule, chooses reinforcement that motivates your child and coaches you through each step. Because accidents and progress both happen at home, having an RBT there to run the routine with you can make the process smoother and more consistent.
