Is Cherry Hill close enough for daily ABA from Pennsauken?

For most Pennsauken families, yes. The township sits right on Cherry Hill's western edge, and our center is about 6.4 miles from Pennsauken on Route 70. Route 70 and Route 38 both run east from Pennsauken toward Cherry Hill, so the trip is one many parents already make for work or errands.

That short distance is why we often suggest parents here look first at Full-Day Center-Based ABA. A center day gives your child a structured setting, peers to practice with and a full team on site, while you get a predictable drop-off and pick-up. If a center day does not fit your child or your schedule, the same clinical team can come to you.

How does ABA fit around a parent's work schedule?

Many Pennsauken parents work shifts, commute toward Philadelphia over the Betsy Ross or Tacony-Palmyra bridges, or juggle more than one child's school schedule. Therapy has to fit real life or it will not last. During your consultation we ask about your week first, then build the plan around it.

Families tend to land in one of three patterns. Some choose a full center day so therapy happens while they work. Others choose In-Home ABA Therapy in the late afternoon, when the routines that matter most (dinner, bath, bedtime) actually happen. A third group mixes the two. Whichever pattern you pick, we keep the same RBTs with your child session to session, which is part of what we mean by small by design.

  • Center daystructured learning and peer practice while you are at work
  • In-home sessionstherapy inside the routines your child struggles with most
  • Blended plancenter days plus home visits, under one BCBA

What happens in the first month after you call?

First, we verify your insurance benefits at no charge and tell you what your plan requires, such as a diagnosis report or a prescription for ABA. Next, a BCBA meets your child for an assessment. That usually includes a skills assessment across communication, play, daily living and social areas, and a functional behavior assessment if challenging behavior is a concern.

From that assessment the BCBA writes a treatment plan with measurable goals and submits it for insurance authorization. Once approved, sessions begin. Every session produces data, and the BCBA reviews that data to adjust goals instead of guessing. Charles Knoppel, BCBA, our Clinical Director, oversees each child's plan, so a Pennsauken family is never handed off to someone who has not met their child.

Expect the first sessions to focus on rapport. Before any teaching starts, your child's RBT spends time learning what your child enjoys and becoming someone your child is happy to see. That trust makes everything after it go more smoothly.

What does small by design mean for a Pennsauken family?

It means your child is known by name, not by a case number. Our BCBAs carry low caseloads, so they have time to watch sessions, read the data and talk with you about what they see. Your child works with the same therapists from week to week instead of meeting someone new every few sessions.

It also means clinical leadership is close by. Charles Knoppel, BCBA, our Clinical Director, oversees every treatment plan and stays involved with the team. If something is not working, the people who can change the plan are a phone call away, and changes happen quickly. That closeness is hard to find when a provider grows too large to know each family.

Can ABA help my child at school in Pennsauken?

It can, when the school agrees. Children ages 3 and up in New Jersey are evaluated by their district's Child Study Team, and supports are written into an IEP. Our School & Community-Based ABA program helps carry skills from therapy into the classroom, the playground and community outings, which is where generalization really gets tested.

We can share progress data with your child's team when you ask us to and suggest strategies that match what is working in therapy. For families across the county, our Camden County ABA page explains how we cover neighboring towns.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How far is Innovative ABA from Pennsauken?

Our only center is at 1939 NJ-70 in Cherry Hill, about 6.4 miles from Pennsauken. Because the two townships border each other, many families make the trip for full-day center-based ABA. If daily travel is hard, our team can provide therapy in your home or your child's school instead.

Does insurance pay for ABA therapy for Pennsauken families?

Often it does. New Jersey's 2009 autism mandate requires many state-regulated health plans to cover medically necessary ABA. Self-funded employer plans follow federal rules instead, so coverage varies. We accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Tricare, UnitedHealthcare and most major plans, and we check your benefits for free.

Does my child need an autism diagnosis before starting ABA?

Most insurance plans require a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder from a developmental pediatrician, psychologist or similar specialist before they authorize ABA. If you are still waiting on an evaluation, call us anyway. We can explain what your plan will ask for and help you get ready so services start sooner.

Who will actually work with my child?

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) designs and supervises the plan, and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) deliver most sessions. Both credentials come from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. We keep caseloads low and keep the same therapists with your child, so they get to know your child well.

Is there a waitlist for Pennsauken families?

Availability changes month to month. We often have openings and can start quickly, especially for center-based days in Cherry Hill. Call (732) 691-1299 and ask about current availability for the program and schedule you have in mind. Families in nearby Cherry Hill and Haddonfield share the same center, so we schedule carefully.

Can I be involved in my child's therapy?

Yes, and we encourage it. Our Parent Training & Support program teaches you the same strategies your child's therapists use, so skills hold up at home, in the car and at family gatherings. Parent sessions are scheduled around your availability. You will learn how to prompt a skill, reinforce it and fade your help over time.
