What does ABA look like for a Delaware County family?
For most families from Media to the river towns, ABA happens at home. Our Cherry Hill center is about 23 miles away, across the Walt Whitman Bridge and around the city, which is a long daily trip for a young child. So we bring therapy to you: a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) works with your child in your home, and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) designs the plan, supervises sessions and meets with you regularly.
Home is not a second-best setting. It is where your child brushes teeth, asks for a snack and plays with siblings, and those are often the exact skills a treatment plan targets. Our In-Home ABA Therapy program uses natural environment teaching in those real moments, with structured practice through discrete trial training where it helps.
Many Delco families are also weighing options closer to home, and that is reasonable. What we offer is a small team where your BCBA keeps a low caseload, your child sees the same RBT as consistently as we can manage, and Clinical Director Charles Knoppel, BCBA, oversees every plan. If that kind of hands-on care matters to you, contact us and we will check what we can schedule in your part of the county.
Why does parent training matter more when ABA is home-based?
Because you are there for every hour your therapist is not. In a home program, the fastest progress usually comes when parents learn the same strategies the RBT uses: how to prompt, how to use reinforcement, and how to respond to challenging behavior in a way that does not accidentally make it stronger.
Our Parent Training & Support program is built into every Delaware County plan. Your BCBA models a strategy, watches you try it, and gives specific feedback. The aim is not to turn you into a therapist. It is to make bedtime, car rides and grocery trips go better between sessions.

Does insurance cover ABA in Delaware County, PA?
Many plans do. Pennsylvania's Act 62 (2008) requires many state-regulated group health plans to cover autism diagnosis and treatment, including ABA, for people under 21. If your coverage comes through a large employer's self-funded plan, federal rules apply instead and benefits vary, which is why we verify every family's coverage for free.
We accept most major plans, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Tricare and UnitedHealthcare. Pennsylvania's Medical Assistance program can also cover ABA through Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS). Whether we can bill a particular Medical Assistance plan depends on provider enrollment, so ask us and we will give you a straight answer.
What does an in-home ABA session look like?
A typical session starts with your RBT checking in with you about the day, then moves through planned teaching that fits your home routine. That might mean practicing requests at snack time, working on a puzzle to build tolerance for waiting, or rehearsing the steps of handwashing. Short, focused teaching rounds are mixed with play your child enjoys, and every response is recorded so progress can be tracked.
Your BCBA joins sessions regularly to observe, update programs and coach you. If something at home changes, such as a new sibling, a move or a new school, tell your team. Plans are meant to change with your family, and the data helps your BCBA decide when a goal is mastered and what comes next.
How does ABA work alongside Early Intervention and school in Delco?
Pennsylvania Early Intervention, overseen by OCDEL, serves children from birth to 5. In most Pennsylvania counties, preschool services for ages 3 to 5 are delivered through the local Intermediate Unit, and school-age children are evaluated by their school district, which writes the IEP. Insurance-funded ABA is separate and can run alongside those services.
With your consent, your BCBA can share goals with your child's teachers or Early Intervention providers. For older children, School & Community-Based ABA and Social Skills Development target the skills that make classrooms and playdates easier.

Frequently asked questions
Is your Cherry Hill center too far for a Delaware County family?
For daily attendance, usually yes. Our center is about 23 miles from Delaware County in a straight line, across the river and around Philadelphia, farther than our Philadelphia families travel. That is why most Delco families choose in-home and community ABA. A few decide occasional center visits are worth it, and we are happy to talk through that, but we will not push a commute that does not fit.
What happens at the first in-home ABA visit?
Your BCBA comes to your home to meet your child, talk with you about your biggest concerns and begin assessment. That usually includes observing play and daily routines, testing skills and, if behavior is a concern, starting a functional behavior assessment. The results shape the treatment plan your insurance reviews before regular sessions begin.
How many hours of ABA will my child need?
It depends on your child's age, needs and goals, so there is no single answer. Your BCBA recommends hours after the assessment and explains why. Insurance must then authorize those hours. Some children need focused help on a few goals, while others benefit from a more intensive plan. We revisit the hours as your child progresses.
Does ABA replace Early Intervention or my child's IEP?
No. Pennsylvania Early Intervention and your school district's IEP are separate services with their own teams and funding. ABA through insurance is in addition to them. Many families use both. With your permission, we coordinate so your child hears the same expectations and practices the same skills at home, at preschool and at school.
Who supervises my child's therapy?
A Board Certified Behavior Analyst designs and supervises your child's plan, and Clinical Director Charles Knoppel, BCBA, oversees every treatment plan across our team. RBTs, who are credentialed through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, deliver the sessions. Because BCBAs keep low caseloads, your supervisor knows your child well, not just their file.
Does a parent need to be home during in-home sessions?
Plan on a parent or caregiver being home during sessions. You do not have to sit in on every minute, but being nearby lets you see strategies in action and step in for parent training. Your BCBA will explain exactly what is expected at intake so there are no surprises once sessions begin.
