How far is your center from Brick Township?
About 46 miles, straight-line. Brick is one of the farthest areas we serve, and our only center is on Route 70 in Cherry Hill. So for Brick families, we lead with In-Home ABA Therapy and community sessions. Your child gets a full ABA program without a long trip being part of every day.
Some families still choose our Full-Day Center-Based ABA program for the structure and peer time it offers, sometimes on select days. That is your call, and we will help you weigh it honestly. What we will not do is suggest there is a center closer to the shore. There is not.
What does community-based ABA look like for a Brick family?
Community-based ABA means practicing skills in the places your child actually goes. A child who melts down at the grocery store learns, step by step, to tolerate waiting in line. A child who bolts in parking lots learns to hold a hand and stop at a cue. A child who wants friends practices joining play at a playground.
These outings are planned by the BCBA, not improvised. Goals are written in advance, the RBT collects data on each attempt, and difficulty increases gradually. Community work usually builds on skills first taught at home, and it is one of the most direct ways to make sure progress shows up beyond the living room. - Waiting & transitionslines, checkouts and leaving a fun place on time
- Safety skillsstaying with an adult, responding to your child's name, stopping on cue
- Social practicegreetings, turn-taking and joining play with other kids
How do we know if our child is ready for ABA?
There is no readiness test a child has to pass. ABA is designed to start where your child is today. If your child has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, or you are seeing signs like limited speech, difficulty with changes in routine, intense tantrums, or trouble playing with other children, it is worth a conversation.
For insurance to cover ABA, most plans need a formal diagnosis from a qualified clinician such as a developmental pediatrician or psychologist. If you are still waiting on an evaluation, call us anyway. We can explain the steps and what insurers usually require, so you are ready to move once the diagnosis comes through.
Some Brick parents tell us they held off because the center felt too far away. That should not be the reason to wait. With in-home ABA, the program is built around your house, your routines and your child's interests, and the BCBA can see firsthand what a typical day looks like. That firsthand view often leads to better goals than a clinic visit alone.
Does ABA keep going in the summer?
Yes. ABA is not tied to the school calendar, and summer is often a good time to make progress. Without school hours, some families add sessions or shift them earlier in the day. Others use summer to focus on community goals and new routines before the next school year starts.
If your child has an IEP with Brick Township Public Schools, ask the Child Study Team whether extended school year services apply. Our BCBA can coordinate home goals with whatever your child is doing in summer programming so skills do not slide when the routine changes.
Who supervises my child's therapy if the BCBA is not there every day?
Your child's day-to-day sessions are delivered by a Registered Behavior Technician, an RBT, who is trained and credentialed under standards set by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. The RBT follows a plan written by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and records data on every target, every session.
The BCBA reviews that data, observes sessions in person, adjusts goals, and meets with you regularly. Because we keep BCBA caseloads low, that supervision is real and frequent. Our Clinical Director, Charles Knoppel, BCBA, oversees every child's treatment plan, including the families we serve at the shore.

Frequently asked questions
Do you have an ABA center near Brick Township?
No. Our only center is at 1939 NJ-70 in Cherry Hill, about 46 miles from Brick. Brick families are served mainly through in-home and community-based ABA. Families who want structured center days can enroll in our Cherry Hill program and many combine it with home sessions.
Can therapy happen at places other than our home?
Yes, when the outing supports a goal on your child's plan. Community sessions might take place at a store, library or playground, and the BCBA decides when your child is ready. School-based sessions are possible only with the school's agreement, which we coordinate with you.
What skills does ABA work on?
ABA can target communication, daily living skills, play, social skills, safety and reducing challenging behaviors that get in the way of learning. Every goal comes from your child's assessment and your family's priorities. Our social skills development program focuses on peer interaction for children ready for it.
How do you measure progress?
RBTs collect data on each goal during every session, and the BCBA graphs and reviews it. You will see how your child is doing on specific skills, not just a general impression. When progress stalls, the BCBA changes the teaching approach rather than waiting.
Is ABA covered by insurance in New Jersey?
Many plans cover it. New Jersey's 2009 autism mandate requires many state-regulated health plans to cover medically necessary ABA, while self-funded employer plans follow federal rules. We accept most major plans and verify your benefits for free, including any prior authorization your plan needs.
Do you serve other towns near Brick?
Yes. We work with families in Toms River, Lakewood, Jackson Township and other towns across the county. Because these towns sit 35 to 46 miles from Cherry Hill, the approach is the same: therapy comes to you. Our Ocean County ABA therapy page explains how we serve the region.
